DESIGN

This page contains all of my design work, including all documents and graphics that I have worked on – either from scratch or using another design as a base.

Technical Documentation

Most recently, I had been tasked with updating a service manual to a new format. This manual has now been placed on the live website and will be printed in the near future. The early version and the update are available above.

I was tasked with updating the service manual to a new page format, meaning I had to adapt the document from 8.5×11 booklet to 5×7. This work included creating a cover design, and adjusting all elements to better fit the new application. This project was completed in Adobe InDesign.

Posters and Academic Design

Here are a few posters that I have created to advertise as a part of my club, the Professional Writing Association at Purdue. I mainly used these posters to attract students to meetings that would benefit their academic success by helping with scholarships or resumes.

Redesign Project

Attached is another project where I was tasked with improving the overall design of a series of documents, which includes a syllabus, a call-out poster, and an academic paper. Each file including the originals (only the original academic paper was designed by myself) with the updates are included below.

Syllabus Redesign

For my final edit of my syllabus I decided to work on alignment, spacing, and fonts. I also wanted to make the overall document shorter, to make it easier/quicker for students to read it. To start off with my edits I changed all the spacing on the document from 1.5 to 1 as it had a little bit too much white-space. I then went through my font gallery and picked something that felt modern and slim, to both make the document look good and reduce the number of pages. I thought I would keep the color scheme and organization from earlier, but I thought the new font would improve the overall aesthetic. I also tried to separate the pages to keep certain things together while separating things that were not related.

Poster Redesign

For my poster I decided to completely start over. I used a template on Canva for inspiration. I then changed almost everything about it except the font they chose. I decided on a flower for the background as it was for the spring dance recital and because I couldn’t find a better image of a dancer. I wanted to have everything center around the title, but I also created an order of attention with the size of each line of text. I also focused on drawing interest through the background image and the centered large text. I made sure to include elements at the bottom and top of the poster that were relevant, but not everyone would be looking for them.

Essay Redesign

For the larger document, I decided to completely re-do everything as well. I found a template that I enjoyed, and I kept some of the alignment and ideas, but I modified them to better fit my purpose. I changed the font and color scheme along with the alignment on the title page to make the page look more aesthetically appealing and unique. I decided to include pictures to add a little bit of visual interest without stealing away the focus from the text. I also made sure to focus on alignment and kept everything consistent throughout the entire document.
